Sunset Properties is owned and operated by the husband and wife team of John Bobe & Karen Jernigan-Bobe. Karen, who is fluent in American Sign Language, is a graduate of Florida State University. John, who owned and operated his first retail business at the age of 19, started at an early age dabbling in real estate.
Together, they have been in the real estate business over 24 years. They were both born and raised on the coast, and their love for the area keeps them here.
They started in Pensacola, Florida, then moved across the state line to Alabama. They specialize in the Fort Morgan area where they not only work, but they also call home. Sunset Properties handles sales, rentals, property management and association management with a focus on personal service. John's & Karen's mission statement is the basis for all their decisions:

Our amazing Office Manager, Becky Smith, is our go-to girl. Becky, can fix our mistakes, fix your reservation, fix you a drink, tell a hilarious story that makes you double over laughing, and sign you into your room all the while making you feel like a local. Becky manages this office flawlessly. So much so, the owners feel completely comfortable leaving at a moments notice knowing that Becky is here making sure everything is perfect with your stay. Becky is an expert at customer service. She has worked in both the hospitality and restaurant industry, owned a boutique, and even worked in the industrial arena. Although she is not a native of the South, every local definitely claims her as their family. Becky is undoubtedly one of the most genuine, and kind people you will ever meet. When you're here, stop by the office to meet Becky and be amazed by the way she manages our business, and brings "Southern Hospitality" to life.
Katie Bobe, our assistant manager and Association Management Liaison, is a Gulf Coast native who has spent her life learning about and serving others. Katie's goal is to make your vacation an unforgettable experience. She comes to work each morning looking forward to the relationships she will build with owners and guests. Katie is uniquely qualified to work with people because of her cultural and relationship-centered education, as well as her job experience that ranges from counselor to sales and customer service. Katie was so glad to move back to the area that she has loved since childhood. This love of the beach and its unique environment prompted Katie to pursue a Master Naturalist Certification, which she completed in 2009. Katie plans to use this increased knowledge about our area to lead nature walking tours of the beach and provide hands on exploration of the shore for our kids. Nothing makes her day more than helping a guest have their vacation dream become a reality. Katie also handles our romance and wedding packages, group stays and special requests. Our maintenance man extraordinaire, Donnie Bobe, is here to address any potential issues that may arise. Donnie is able to repair just about anything, which is why we trust him with our beautiful property. Donnie's qualifications include many years as a mechanic, carpenter, manager, pool maintenance, wild animal wrangler, and all around great guy, all of which are necessary to be in charge of maintenance at Sunset Properties. Donnie takes pride in keeping each of our rental properties safe, and in excellent working order for our guests. If you see him on the property, be sure to stop and tell him hello. You may even get to hear the latest animal-wrangling story.
Gwen Bobe is our new Housekeeping Manager. Previously serving as a nurse for 20 years, she decided to give it up to work side by side at the beach with the love of her life, Donnie!!! Her work experience also includes a decade with the United States Postal Service and five years with Southern Bell , not to mention her important unpaid position as wife, mother and Head House Keeper for her own Bobe Clan. The biggest item that qualifies Gwen to supervise our housekeeping division is her several years of experience in Condo Housekeeping The bulk of her previous work was done on Pensacola Beach. Gwen strives hard to make sure our housekeepers offer our guests a clean that is so well done that our guests will actually remember how immaculate their vacation home was! Gwen is also the mother of a police officer in Va. and a civil engineer in Mobile, AL. But, the one thing that she is the most proud of is her 5 grandchildren!
Tara Denney is our newest staff member. Like all of us, Tara does a little bit of everything, but you will most often find her at the front desk helping guests. Growing up in Huntsville, she spent her vacations in Gulf Shores; where Ft. Morgan quickly became a favorite spot for her family to visit. Tara graduated from a college in Tennessee with a degree in Child & Family Psychology. Her love of the beach and the enjoyment she gets being
outside exploring with her family, friends and her sweet puppy brought her to live in Ft. Morgan. Tara's vast work experience centers around public relations, and her sunny personality along with her standout work ethic makes her a perfect fit in the Sunset Properties Family. We are so thrilled to have her join our staff and look forward to the fun adventures we will have with her in the future. Welcome aboard Tara!
Jim Merrick is an avid fisherman, snow skier, ice climber and father! His cheerful disposition and gift of gab allow him to complete any repairs you might need painlessly while putting you at ease and welcoming you to the beach. Jim can give you the best advice about local fishing, dining and musicians along with dieting and exercising tips all the while fixing just about anything that may break. He is truly a renaissance man, which in our book is the definition of our maintenance men at Sunset Properties. Be sure to say "Hi" to Jim as he passes through on his way to the next repair or swing by Tequila’s in the evenings where he will pour you a tasty drink, and might even showcase his musical talents!
Mark Worley our rersident electronic and mechnincal expert, is again truly a renaissance man who solves any problem we throw at him. When Mark is not here he is spending time with his kids in Arkansas, riding motorcycles or rock climbing. A former gymnist who attened Arkansas State, Mark and Jim are long time friends from college days. A story teller with a wealth of knowledge, Mark has the ability to explain the most complicated repairs to our office girls so they can understand, or have you completely entwined in a joke before you even know it. Mark, a comedian at heart, is forever making us laugh or pulling a practical joke on one of us! On top of his consistently jovial personality, which is a great asset during our long busy summers, Mark is truly “Mr. Fix It”. So, for all of you single gals out there, he is absolutly a catch!!
